Gianluca Vadalà is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon since 2009 with a PhD in Tissue Regeneration obtained in 2012 at UCBM. He achieved also a MBA in Healthcare administration in 2013 at UCBM. Over his past ten years of education and scientific production, Dr. Vadalà devoted his career to acquiring multidisciplinary knowledge and to organizing a multitask network of collaborators to develop new biological therapies for bone and cartilage regeneration. In 2013, he received the AOSpine Europe Young Research Award, the most prestigious European award for research in the Spine Surgery field, for his enthusiastic research on IVD regeneration. He is currently employed at the UCBM Hospital of Rome in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery where he actively performs orthopaedic surgery. He coordinates a laboratory of the Operative Unit of Orthopaedic Surgery with two full-time biologists with expertise on cell and molecular biology as well as on histology. He is the PI of the UCBM unit of the H2020 project RESPINE, REgenerative therapy of intervertebral disc: a double blind phase 2b trial of intradiscal injection of mesenchymal stromal cells in degenerative disc disease of the lumbar SPINE unresponsive to conventional therapy (Proposal number: 732163). He was the PI of the scientific program “Towards intervertebral disc regeneration: mesenchymal stem/stromal cells with a novel bioactive hydrogel based approach” awarded by the Young Investigator Grant of the Italian Ministry of Health (GR-2010-2318448). Dr. Vadalà is also a partner of the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) action; MP1301: NEWGEN; Project title: New Generation Biomimetic and Customized Implants for Bone Engineering. He is member of the major International and National Scientific Society in Orthopaedic Research, Regenerative Medicine and Spine Surgery. He serves in commission of trust as Treasurer the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS) and as General Secretary and Treasurer the Italian Orthopaedic Research Society (IORS). He is the European Representative of the International Society of the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS).
