Lund University was founded in 1666 and it is one of the oldest universities in Sweden. With eight faculties and a number of research centres and specialised institutes, Lund University has over 42000 students and over 7500 employ and it is one of the largest units for research and higher education in Sweden. It has the goal of the providing the highest quality in education, research, innovation and interaction with society.
The Department of Hand Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine has a strong link between clinical hand surgery and academic hand surgery including teaching, research and development. The Hand Surgery department has a strong position in experimental and clinical research and has well developed networks in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering was founded in 2014 when the research groups from Biomechanics, Biomedical Signal Processing and Electrical Measurements merged to one unit in order to focus on research and education in the field of biomedical engineering. The department of biomedical engineering has research groups cover a wide array of biomedical research topics such as: biomechanics, biomedical signal processing, clinical protein science and imaging, nanobiotechnology and Lab-on-a-chip, neural engineering and ultrasound. The Department of Biomedical Engineering includes over 60 employees.
