Rocco Papalia (2001: MD graduation, 2006: Orthopaedics residency; 2010: PhD in Tissue Regeneration from UCBM) is currently Full Professor of Orthopedics at UCBM, director of the Orthopaedic Department and of the residency program in Orthopaedic Surgery at UCBM. In 2006 performed a visiting research fellowship for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh (PA-USA). In 2012 he was awarded a travelling fellowship from the European federation of national association of orthopedic sport traumatology (EFOST) and in 2014 he again was awarded a travelling fellowship from the European society of sport trauma and knee surgery (ESSKA) and the Sociedad latino-americana de artroscopia de Rodilla y traumatologia Deportiva (SLARD). His research activity focuses on techniques for shoulder, Knee and hip arthroscopy as well as on biomechanics of sport traumatology and spine surgery. In particular he studied knee ligament injuries, lesions of the rotator cuff and shoulder instability. He actively contributes to the H2020 project RESPINE, REgenerative therapy of intervertebral disc: a double blind phase 2b trial of intradiscal injection of mesenchymal stromal cells in degenerative disc disease of the lumbar SPINE unresponsive to conventional therapy (Proposal number: 732163).
