University of Essex

The University of Essex, founded in 1964, is a research intensive university with a substantial reputation for research excellence. In 2013, Essex was in the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years of age according to the QS university rankings. Most recent results of the UK-wide Research Excellence Framework exercise, conducted in 2014, reveal 77% of the University’s research is rated as either 4-star (worldleading) or 3-star (internationally excellent) in terms of originality, significance, and rigour. It is ranked as one of the top 20 research universities in the UK (according to The Times methodology). With 11,939 students (8,723 undergraduates and 3,216 postgraduates) coming from 137 different countries, is one of the most internationally-diverse universities in the UK.
The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (SCSEE) conducts world-leading research in artificial intelligence (e.g. assistive technologies, brain-computer interfaces, evolutionary computation, gaming and robotics) and communications. Essex is ranked among the best 101-150 universities worldwide for computer science (joint 8th in the UK) in the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Main tasks in DeTOP
Development of point-process and machine-learning-based neuro-muscular decoding/control algorithms (WP4); Porting of sensory/control algorithms from high-level to the embedded platform (WP7).
